Understanding Signals and Pips

What are forex signals? How do you calculate pips? A foundational guide to navigating the premium setups.

What is a Forex Signal?

A forex signal is a suggested trade setup for a currency pair, provided by an experienced analyst or an automated system. It typically contains:

  • Asset: E.g., EUR/USD or XAUUSD
  • Action: Buy or Sell
  • Entry Price: The ideal price to enter
  • Stop Loss (SL): Price to exit to limit losses
  • Take Profit (TP): Price to exit to secure profit

What is a Pip?

A "pip" (Percentage in Point) is the standard unit used to measure the change in value between two currencies. For most pairs, a pip is the fourth decimal place (0.0001).

Example (EUR/USD):

If EUR/USD moves from 1.1050 to 1.1051, that is a 1-pip movement.

*Note: For JPY pairs and Gold (XAUUSD), the pip is typically the second decimal place (0.01).

How to Use Signals Safely

Receiving a signal is only half the battle. Risk management is crucial to long-term success.

1

Calculate Your Lot Size

Always calculate the appropriate lot size based on the Stop Loss in pips and your account balance. Never risk more than 1-2% per trade.

2

Use Proper Leverage

High leverage can amplify both profits and losses. Ensure your leverage aligns with your risk management strategy.
